  “Morning keep the streets empty for me.” - Fever Ray

  I sing this song in the wee hours, sometimes, pleading for an ideal that may or may not ever come.

  My street is the core of a downtown trying to re-emerge, yet it never seems to live up to my ideals.

  By day, I seek to fill the street with a cultural energy that draws people to experience it’s unique vibrancy.

  By night, I yearn for an emptiness that is my lonely, melancholy experience of a distant train, crossing the numerous crossings around town.

  Sing a song amongst a crowd by day; feel the painful wail of the train whistle alone by night.

  My street. My emptiness. My train whistle in the distance.

  My loneliness.

  Alas.

  My song by day gets drowned by the noise of a culture I do not desire.

  My melancholy solitude by night gets interrupted by the bum looking for scrap in the dumpster.

  Nothing is pure, yet I still seek purity.

  At my age, you’d think I’d learn.

  The train wails on, and I dream of a moment where art and life converge.

  Morning, please. Keep the street empty for me.
